exit to street

Hello!!

So you ended up in www.streetfotografy.wordpress.com. :)

Welcome!!

What can you find in here? It not just street photography you will find, but a PILE of all kinds of photography — all photography that documents life. It isn’t that difficult to see what this site is about — just look at the most recent additions as well as the archives or categories on the right. If you like the photos on this site, please check out the other sites in my blogroll below. Also, don’t forget to subscribe to an RSS feed so that you can receive my daily updates via email or any other form. If you would like to talk, my contact information are on the Talk to Me page above.

This blog is new. I began this blog on Christmas morning 2007 (very early morning) meaning it will be rather empty. However, I still encourage you to look through my photographs and keep revisiting because I will strive post an image everyday. My first project will be to post a new image everyday for the Twelve Days of Christmas. We’ll see if I can make a photograph a day.

So What is Street Photography?

According to Wikipedia:

“Street photography is a type of documentary photography that features subjects in candid situations within public places such as streets, parks, beaches, malls, political conventions, and other settings.”

Its just that! I go around taking photographs of anything, anywhere — especially people. People are a big part of Street Photography. After all, a street photographer documents their lives. Because people play such a big role as subjects, there are several obstacles to street photography:

  • Shyness: It takes a lot of courage to go up to someone and take his or her photograph.
  • Speed: Streets don’t stay put like studios and models do — they are constantly moving; you have to be constantly clicking.
  • Settings: Settings are often kept in manual and are not changed because changing settings and focusing are luxuries of time that one usually cannot afford in street photography.
  • Stealth: The point of street photography is take life candidly — if you are seen taking a photograph, then the subjects become aware of your presence and the candid nature disappears.
  • Spontaneity: The streets are unpredictable and a street photographer must be flexible enough to adapt to these unpredictable conditions.

These are a few I could think of for now but as you can see, street photography is unlike many other forms of photography — it is so different that it is sometimes called non-photography.

Street photography is not supposed to be pretty although at times, it can be. It is supposed to be blunt and to the point, delivering life as the person (well the camera) sees it. Because of this, I don’t expect to sell much in terms of prints for these pictures but if you are interested in buying high resolution prints for these photographs, please contact me via email with “Printed Photographs” as the subject and I will get back to you within 24 hours.

The Photographs

The photographs on this website are not all to be classified under street photography. All of them attempt to document different aspects and different events in life. Basically, these photographs can be of anything.

All the photographs, unless otherwise noted, are all mine and I retain the copyright for all these photographs. If you interested in any of the photographs for personal use, please email me.

Thank you and have fun looking around at the photographs at streetfotografy.wordpress.com!!

  1. Thanks for your comment on Photoshop / Camera Raw / Workflow.
Also very interested in the topic of “Streetfotography”. I guess that is what i have been doing to some degree, but this is the first time I have heard it referred to as that. Althought I do other photos, I prefer real life-people, real situations, candid shots. Will spend more time looking at your blog later, and maybe post a few pictures on mine for your critique.

    Regards,

    John

  2. Pretty cool stuff here. Will definitely keep tabs on your daily photos, especially since I could use the same encouragement to keep up my daily photo commitment.

I like your street photography. I think that’s my weakest point, or at least it’s the kind of photography I’ve done the least. I’m looking to learn from your photos. What equipment do you use?
